Phase I Study of Aflibercept With or After Radiation Therapy and Temozolomide in Patients with Malignant Glioma
[Protocol 08-106]
- Full Title :
- PHASE I TRIAL OF AFLIBERCEPT (VEGF TRAP) WITH RADIATION THERAPY AND CONCOMITANT AND ADJUVANT TEMOZOLOMIDE IN PATIENTS WITH MALIGNANT GLIOMA (NABTC 07-01)
- Purpose :
Aflibercept (also called VEGF Trap) is an investigational drug that may stop cancer cells from growing abnormally. Specifically, aflibercept starves the tumor of an important growth factor needed for new blood vessel growth. Studies of the drug in a variety of cancers suggest that it may help to stop new blood vessel growth at the site of the tumor, preventing tumor growth.
Temozolomide is a standard therapy for gliomas. The combination of temozolomide and radiation therapy slows or stops tumor growth in some patients with glioblastoma multiforme. In this study, researchers want to determine the highest dose of aflibercept that can be given safely either with or after radiation therapy and temozolomide in patients with malignant gliomas.
- Eligibility :
To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:
- Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of malignant glioma.
- Patients may not have received prior therapy with Gliadel wafers.
- Patients must have recovered from the side effects of any prior therapies.
- Patients must be age 18 or older.
