A Phase II Study of Everolimus (RAD001) in Metastatic Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urothelium
[Protocol 08-123]
- Full Title :
- PHASE II STUDY OF EVEROLIMUS (RAD001) IN METASTATIC TRANSITIONAL CELL CARCINOMA OF THE UROTHELIUM
- Purpose :
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of a drug called everolimus (RAD001) in patients with cancer of the bladder, ureter, urethra, or renal pelvis (urothelial tract) that has spread and grown despite previous treatment. Everolimus is a pill designed to stop cancer cells from growing by inhibiting a protein called mTOR. mTOR helps to control the production of other proteins needed for cancer cell growth. Researchers will see if everolimus can shrink or slow the growth of urothelial cancers.
- Eligibility :
To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:
- Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of metastatic cancer of the bladder, ureter, urethra, or renal pelvis that has progressed despite prior therapy.
- Patients must have had at least one but no more than four prior regimens of chemotherapy that included at least one of the following: cisplatin, carboplatin, paclitaxel, docetaxel, or gemcitabine.
- At least 4 weeks must have passed since completion of prior therapies and entry into the study.
- Patients must be age 18 or older.
