A Phase II Study of AZD6244 in Women with Recurrent Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer

[Protocol 09-007]

Full Title :
A PHASE II TRIAL OF AZD6244 (NSC #741078, IND #77782) IN WOMEN WITH RECURRENT LOW GRADE SEROUS CARCINOMA OF THE OVARY (GOG-0239)
Purpose :

The purpose of this Gynecologic Oncology Group study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug called AZD6244 in women with recurrent low-grade serous ovarian cancer that has spread outside the ovaries. AZD6244 is designed to block a protein called MEK, which some cancers depend on to grow. AZD6244 may also act on other proteins that control the growth of tumors.

AZD6244 has been shown to be effective in stopping or slowing tumor growth in patients with other types of cancer, but it has not been assessed before in women with ovarian cancer.

Investigators will also measure levels of certain proteins in patients' blood to see if there is a relationship between these proteins and response to treatment with AZD6244. DNA from tumor tissue will also be examined to look for mutations in cancer cells that may make them more likely to respond to this drug.

Eligibility :

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of recurrent low-grade serous ovarian cancer that has spread outside the ovaries.
  • At least 4 weeks must have passed since completion of chemotherapy or radiation therapy and entry into the study.
  • Patients must be age 18 or older.

For more information and to inquire about eligibility for this study, please contact Dr. Mario Leitao at 212-639-3987.
