A Global Assessment of Medical, Emotional, and Reproductive Concerns in Survivors of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease

[Protocol 08-040]

Full Title :
A GLOBAL ASSESSMENT OF MEDICAL, EMOTIONAL AND REPRODUCTIVE CONCERNS IN GESTATIONAL TROPHOBLASTIC DISEASE SURVIVORS
Purpose :

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is a rare cancer in women that can occur during pregnancy. It develops in the uterus when cancerous cells grow in the tissues that are formed following conception (the union of a sperm and egg), and usually becomes evident some 10 to 16 weeks after conception. These tissues, called the trophoblast, develop into the placenta. In GTD, this tissue continues to grow, but the fetus does not develop.

The purpose of this study is to collect information on the effects of treatment for GTD. Researchers plan to use the findings from this study to better understand GTD survivors' health and quality of life. Participants will complete a questionnaire surveying them about their health, quality of life, and pregnancies. This information will be used to try and improve the treatments for women with this disease.

Eligibility :

Participants in this study will include women treated for GTD at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center between 1996 and 2008.

For more information about this study, please contact Dr. Carol Aghajanian at 212-639-2252 or Dr. Jeanne Carter at 646-888-0027.
