Treatment of Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumors of the Central Nervous System with Surgery, Intensive Chemotherapy, and 3-D Conformal Radiation

[Protocol 09-070]

Full Title :
ACNS0333, TREATMENT OF ATYPICAL TERATOID/RHABDOID TUMORS (AT/RT) OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM WITH SURGERY, INTENSIVE CHEMOTHERAPY, AND 3-D CONFORMAL RADIATION (COG ACNS 0333)
Purpose :

Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is a type of cancer of the brain or spine. These tumors grow quickly and can spread to other areas of the brain and around the spine.

The purpose of this Children's Oncology Group study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of surgery, intensive chemotherapy, and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy in patients with AT/RT. Treatment for these tumors has included lower doses of chemotherapy than those to be assessed in this study.

Researchers will also establish a database containing genetic and biological information about these tumors.

Eligibility :

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of AT/RT of the brain that has not yet been treated.
  • Patients with tumors with a mutation in the INI1 gene may also be eligible and may have had up to one prior cycle of induction chemotherapy.
  • Patients must be under age 22.

For more information and to inquire about eligibility for this study, please contact Dr. Ira Dunkel at 212-639-2153.
