Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Breast Disease Management Team provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to breast cancer patients, including a full array of supportive services such as nutritional and genetic counseling, gynecologic and endocrinological care, physical therapy, and the most extensive psychosocial support programs in the region. We treat more breast cancer patients than any other cancer center in the nation.

In this section, you can find information about our expertise in treating patients with breast cancer, our services, and our research.

  • Our Approach & Expertise
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center treats more breast cancer patients than any other cancer center in the nation.
  • Our Team of Experts
Our doctors -- including breast surgeons, breast cancer medical oncologists, pathologists, reconstructive surgeons, radiation oncologists, and radiologists -- work as a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal care to breast cancer patients.
  • Overview
Most breast cancers are ductal carcinomas -- they originate in the ducts that carry milk to the nipple.
  • Risk Factors
A woman's chances of developing breast cancer increase as she grows older; 77 percent of breast cancers are found in women over the age of 50.
  • Screening
Memorial Sloan-Kettering physicians are using digital mammography, a technique that enables radiologists to produce an image of the breast in about five seconds and to refine the contrast of the image so that lesions can be seen more clearly. This section includes our recommended screening guidelines.
  • Diagnosis
When breast cancer is suspected, a doctor will perform a biopsy -- a procedure to remove some cells from the suspicious area so that they can be examined more closely.
  • Surgery
When a woman learns she has breast cancer, Memorial Sloan-Kettering surgeons can offer her the best possible chance of saving her breast (if this is an appropriate treatment for her).
  • Systemic Therapy
One major focus of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's breast cancer specialists has been to explore the effectiveness of a new class of drugs that have been shown to be active against breast cancer: the taxanes.
  • Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is offered to breast cancer patients to rid the body of any microscopic cancer cells that may remain near the area where the cancer was originally found.
  • Our Clinical Trials
Here you can find descriptions of some of the newest breast cancer clinical trials at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
  • Survivorship & Support
Memorial Sloan-Kettering has the most extensive support programs in the region for patients with breast cancer.
  • Breast Cancer Information - A to Z
We hope to help you understand what is going on in your body, how breast cancer is diagnosed and characterized, and how you can work with your doctor to plan a course of treatment.
