Description:

Under the auspices of the Barbara Ziegler Palliative Care Education Program, the student will learn how to treat pain and how to manage common problems in palliative medicine by joining the Pain and Palliative Care Service in the Department of Neurology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the first pain and palliative care service within a cancer hospital in the United States. The student will follow patients daily under the supervision of Pain and Palliative Care Fellows and Faculty and will be expected to participate fully in daily rounds, family meetings, and conferences. Students are invited to attend the weekly Pain and Palliative Care Clinical Conference, Outpatient Management Conference, and other relevant programs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. The students may also participate in the outpatient clinic and accompany members of the Supportive Care Program on home visits when appropriate. Students are provided a syllabus, reading list, and individual tutorial sessions with faculty.
