Description:

The student will spend the elective period on the in-patient unit. Responsibilities will include the admission, work-up, and management of children with malignancy under close supervision. Patient load will be tailored so that the sub-intern will have time to search the literature and actively participate in rounds and treatment planning and to attend conferences, seminars, and lectures.

Through the management of children (and their parents) with serious chronic disease and superimposed acute complications, the student will gain experience in many aspects of pediatric care: oncology, hematology, infectious disease, nutrition, fluid and electrolytes, neurology, psychology, etc.
