One of the key aims of the International Center is to complete preparation for international patients' care before their arrival for treatment. Using an organized approach to care, we can prevent delays from occurring after arrival.
To ensure an appropriate referral to a Memorial Sloan-Kettering physician, please complete the Patient & Contact Information form and submit a 1-3 page Physician Medical Summary of the patient's medical condition and history with current treatment plan. All available medical records, and pathology and imaging reports should be included. The Patient & Contact Information form and Physician Medical Summary must be prepared by a physician who is not a friend or relative of the patient. This physician needs to specify if the patient would benefit from coming to Memorial Sloan-Kettering for Consultation or Treatment or by having a Review of Records by Mail.
All documents must be in English. Sending documents in any language other than English will cause a delay. We cannot translate documents; however, we can provide a list of private translation services.
The International Center charges no fee to arrange a referral to a cancer specialist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Once a second-opinion consultation is scheduled -- or a review of records by mail is to be arranged -- Memorial Sloan-Kettering will require payment in advance.
Sometimes a specific doctor you might be inquiring about does not necessarily specialize in the area of the patient's particular disease. Therefore, providing us with medical summary information will enable us to make an appropriate referral to a physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.
We recognize that those seeking to come to MSKCC for Consultation and/or Treatment are anxious and may wish to come as soon as possible. Be assured that we will do our best to schedule an appointment for the earliest available date. However, please take note that it can take between 2-6 weeks for an appointment with a doctor at MSKCC, and in some instances it can take longer. Therefore, do not schedule travel or come to MSKCC until an appointment has been confirmed for you by the Memorial Sloan-Kettering International Center.
Please let us know if you will need a "Visa Letter" to visit for Consultation (1-2 week stay) or Treatment (1-3 month stay). We are unable to issue a letter confirming Consultation or Treatment until advance payment for such services is made in full.
If, after your consultation with a Memorial physician, it is recommended that it would be appropriate for you to consider treatment, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy at Memorial Hospital, you should contact the International Center to learn the deposit requirement. The deposit will be based on the defined treatment plan as specified by our physician. This deposit should cover hospital and physician costs related to the proposed treatment. Payment in full is required 48 hours prior to commencing any treatment.
Obtaining an on-site second-opinion consultation does not obligate you to obtain treatment or services at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, nor does it obligate Memorial Sloan-Kettering to provide treatment or services.
