Resources on other Web sites for cancer patients and their caregivers

As many as half of the patients diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma will develop a new skin cancer within five years. For that reason, ongoing follow-up examinations by both the patient and the cancer care team are essential.

Skin cancer survivors should see their doctors immediately if they find a growth, bump, or spot or any changes in their skin that could indicate a recurrence of disease. Follow-up examinations by a physician are recommended every 6 to 12 months. Obviously, protection from sun exposure is critical for skin cancer survivors.
