Description:
The assessment of psychological symptoms and the diagnosis and management of common psychiatric syndromes seen in children and adolescents with cancer will be taught to students in the context of patients and families seen by the psychiatry staff in the pediatric oncology setting. Familiarity with liaison issues, exposure to a continuity consultation model, and problems of pediatric oncology staff in dealing with children who have cancer and their families will be experienced. Basic theories of child and adolescent psychiatry and consultation liaison psychiatry will be reviewed accompanied by hands on exposure to and study of inpatient and outpatient pediatric oncology as a social system.

Prerequisites Other Than Third Year Rotations:
Upon receipt of a completed application, a telephone interview with the student may be requested.
