Major Research Areas
Molecular Pharmacology & Chemistry

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is committed to conducting cutting-edge cancer research, educating future medical practitioners, and providing patients with the best cancer care. The Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) -- first awarded by National Cancer Institute in 2001 -- is a testament to this fact. Under the SPORE grant we have developed five research projects -- each with its own set of aims -- and a number of pilot projects. In addition, to facilitate our dedication to preparing physicians and scientists for independent careers as investigators in translational research in prostate cancer, we established a career development program under the SPORE.

Mission

The main objective of our SPORE research is to translate population-based clinical investigations and basic research findings into clinical trials of both early and late prostate cancer guided by decision-analytic models that incorporate prognostic nomograms and molecular determinants. Another major goal of our program is to further characterize the pathways involved in prostate cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis through molecular analyses of transgenic murine models and well-characterized cohorts of prostate cancer patients representing all clinical stages of the disease.
