In response to the increasing number of patients who are living beyond cancer, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has established the Cancer Survivorship Initiative to institute a comprehensive program of services for cancer survivors and their families, and to develop a survivorship research effort that will address issues of critical importance to survivors nationwide.

Survivorship Initiative Services and Programs

Survivorship Clinics

To meet the needs of cancer survivors, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has developed a comprehensive clinical survivorship program. These clinics are disease specific and available to patients who received treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Post-Treatment Resource Program

This program offers educational services such as seminars that focus on treatment-specific issues; support groups led by professionals; and consultation and advice on survivorship concerns such as insurance, sexuality, and employment. These resources are available to all cancer survivors regardless of where treatment was received. Contact the program at 212-717-3527.

Sexual Health Program

Since sexuality can be affected by cancer and its treatment, this program offers access to physicians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists who are familiar with sexual health problems, including changes in sexual function and difficulties with sexual intimacy, which may arise as a result of a cancer diagnosis or treatment. The men's program can be contacted by phone at 646-422-4359; for the women's program, call 212-369-8045.

Smoking Cessation Program

In the Smoking Cessation Program, psychologists and specially trained nurses offer assistance to cancer survivors and their family members to help them quit smoking. Methods are tailored to each person and may include behavioral counseling and, when appropriate, medication. Contact the program by phone at 212-610-0507.

Integrative Medicine Service

Complementary therapies can help patients and family members improve their strength and stamina, enhance well-being, manage chronic symptoms, and reduce stress and anxiety even after medical treatment ends. Specialists in our Integrative Medicine Service offer therapies that include massage, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, mediation, fitness, and yoga. Contact the Service by phone at 212-639-4700.

Nutrition Counseling

Registered dietitians provide counseling and education about diets for the promotion of good health and cancer prevention.

Speech, Hearing, and Rehabilitation Center

The Speech, Hearing, and Rehabilitation Center features clinical services and programs focused on restoration of quality of life. These services include therapies for speech, voice, swallowing, and hearing impairments related to cancer and its treatment. Contact the center by phone at 212-639-5856.

Physical Rehabilitation

Through a comprehensive therapeutic and educational approach, rehabilitation specialists help cancer survivors decrease fatigue and pain, improve strength and endurance, enhance their quality of life, and establish a strong sense of physical well-being. Contact a rehabilitation specialist by phone at 212-639-7833.
