The Pain Service in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine offers a one-year fellowship in Pain Management in which one may receive an ABA-approved Subspecialty Certificate in Pain Management. The fellowship is only open to residents who have completed an ABA-approved residency. The program is jointly coordinated with New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, the parent institution for the fellowship. [Program ID: 0483521049]

A total of eight fellowship positions are available beginning in July of each academic year. The fellowship consists of a single year, with each fellow rotating three to four months at the New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, three to four months at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and three months at the Hospital for Special Surgery. In addition, each fellow is offered two months of elective rotation time to tailor their training to their particular interests. These two months can be used to gain additional experience at the three core hospitals (Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, or New York-Presbyterian Hospital), or at an outside ACGME accredited pain program. Additional rotations in Radiology, Complementary Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Neurosurgery may be undertaken at the core institutions as part of the elective time.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Memorial Sloan-Kettering operates in modern facilities that include 17 inpatient operating rooms, a five-OR Ambulatory Surgery Clinic, a 24-hour Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit, a Pediatric Procedure Area, a Pain Management Clinic, and a Service of Respiratory Therapy. The ORs, PACU, and ICU have state-of-the-art equipment, including centralized mass-spectrometry and computerized patient data management.
