The Head and Neck Service of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center offers a one year clinical or a two-and-one-half-year clinical and research senior fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery. The American Head and Neck Society-sponsored Advanced Training Council gives approval for the fellowship.

The program is designed to offer the candidate a comprehensive training program in clinical head and neck oncology and basic research in order to prepare the individual for an academic career in this field. The clinical rotation is 12 months for both fellowships, and the research rotation includes 18 months in a laboratory setting. In addition to the clinical rotation in surgery, each 2.5 year candidate may dedicate time to the Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Pathology Services during an elective period of up to three months to gain additional experience with multidisciplinary management.

Fellows are responsible for preoperative and postoperative patient care, and they will be involved in surgical operations under the attending surgeon's direction. Fellows are also asked to help supervise and instruct residents on the Head and Neck Service, as well as participate in outpatient clinics, rounds, lectures, seminars, Journal Club, and research conferences.
