The Pediatric Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a unique fellowship that offers broad exposure to the spectrum of surgical management of pediatric oncologic disease. As one of the busiest pediatric surgical oncology services in the world, the Pediatric Surgical Service is involved with more than 500 operative and several hundred additional procedures a year. Fellows are exposed to patients with neuroblastoma, Wilms' tumors, hepatic tumors, extremity and central sarcomas, head and neck tumors, and other solid malignancies of childhood. The service is not only heavily integrated with the Pediatric Oncology Service, but it also participates in the acute care management and supportive management of patients with both solid and liquid malignancies. The service is also involved in all forms of endoscopy, all forms of minimal access surgery -- including thoracoscopy and laparoscopy -- and pediatric urologic oncology.
The Pediatric Surgical Oncology fellow will work closely with the two attending pediatric surgeons, as well as with the pediatric oncology staff in the management of patients. There is also ample opportunity for basic and clinical research, which may involve participation in clinical protocols and/or involvement in Pediatric Surgical Oncology staff laboratory investigations.

- Eligibility
- Applicants must have at least four years of general surgical training in an approved American surgical residency program. Foreign applicants are eligible to apply, but they should have completed pediatric surgical training. In addition, foreign graduates must also have passed all three USMLE exams and hold a valid ECFMG certificate. All applicants must have excellent mastery of the English language, empathy toward children, and the ability to handle difficult psychological and emotional circumstances surrounding pediatric cancer.
