Fred's Team
Fred's Team celebrates in New York City's Times Square.

In 2006, Fred's Team members raised more than $3.5 million through various events held across the United States.

Named for the late Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon founder and former Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center patient, Fred's Team generates donations for research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering by participating in marathons and other endurance events.

At the November 5 ING New York City Marathon, 730 team members raised more than $3.2 million, up from $2.6 million in 2005. Sixty-five marathoners ran in the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon on October 22, raising nearly $200,000.

The Fred's Team marathon program supports approximately 40 different areas of research at the Center, with one-third of the funds going to The Aubrey Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research. The fund is named after Aubrey Barr, who was treated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering for acute lymphoblastic leukemia as a child. Now in her mid-30s, she runs marathons for Fred's Team. The Aubrey Fund supports research in leukemia, neuroblastomas, brain tumors, and forms of sarcoma that primarily affect children.
