Development of TGF-beta1 conditional knockout mouse model enables the study of cell type-specific functions of TGF-beta1 in vivo. We have found that T cell-produced TGF-beta1 is essential for T cell tolerance and immunity. We will extend these studies and address the following questions:
- What is the function of TGF-beta1 produced by T cell subsets such as Treg cells?
- How is TGF-beta1 expression in T cells regulated?
- How is T cell-produced TGF-beta1 activated?
- What is the function of TGF-beta1 produced by cell types other than T cells in T cell development, homeostasis, tolerance, and immunity?
