Memorial Sloan-Kettering Celebrates 28th Annual Convocation Ceremony

Academic Convocation recently recognized students who earned their PhD degrees for work conducted in MSKCC's laboratories, and honored research carried out by young MSKCC physicians, scientists, and postdoctoral research fellows, as well as established clinicians and investigators from the Center and beyond.

Children Enjoy First Bright Space Center to Open in Harlem

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, MSKCC, Abyssinian Development Corporation, and Community Playthings recently cut ribbons to officially open Harlem's first Bright Space center for homeless children at Abyssinian House, a transitional residence serving families in Harlem. Bright Space centers are designed to provide homeless children with a dedicated warm, enriching area to play and learn.

New Treatment Approach for Rare Childhood Eye Cancer

Doctors from MSKCC and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital are investigating a new approach to treating a pediatric cancer of the eye known as retinoblastoma. The physicians hope that this approach -- called intra-arterial chemotherapy -- will ultimately replace the standard treatment for children with this disease, which remains surgical removal of the affected eye.

Researchers Create Muscle Cells from Embryonic Stem Cells

A team of MSKCC investigators has reported for the first time a novel strategy to coax human embryonic stem cells to develop into cells that could potentially be used to repair the musculoskeletal system, including bone, cartilage, and muscle.

Targeted Therapy Active in Patients with Ovarian Cancer

Preliminary results from a study of VEGF Trap (aflibercept) show activity in patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer who had become resistant to platinum-based chemotherapy agents.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Associated with Type of Specialist Seen

A new study led by MSKCC researchers shows that the specialty of the physician a prostate cancer patient sees can influence the type of therapy he ultimately receives.

Ephraim Casper Named Head of Medicine Services Regional Care Network

Ephraim S. Casper has been named Head of the newly formed Division of Network Medicine Services in the Department of Medicine. In this role, Dr. Casper oversees the medical services at MSKCC's Regional Care Network sites.
