Research Fellows
As a Research Fellow, you are not eligible to accrue vacation, holiday, or sick time.
You are granted vacation time at the discretion of the Lab Head. Your stipend pay will continue during vacation time. The guideline for granting vacation time is in the range of two to four weeks per year; for maternity leave, the norm is two weeks before childbirth and six weeks after.
If you are out due to illness or injury, your stipend pay will continue. Lab Heads, at their discretion, may request to see a note from your physician if you are absent due to illness or injury. The disability form is not required. If the illness or injury is work related, Workers' Compensation forms must be completed to protect your benefits under Workers' Compensation regulations. You may call the Benefits Department for assistance with forms at 212-639-3463.
Time off questions and concerns should be addressed to Ms. Denise Cruz, Training Program Specialist at 212-639-3014.
Research Associates
Vacation and Holiday Time
Research Associates are eligible for 20 vacation days and 12 holidays per year. You may hold a combined maximum of 26 vacation days and holidays in your bank. The accrued time in your vacation/holiday bank may be carried over from one appointment to another, up to the maximum 26 days. The approval of the Lab Head is required before vacation or holiday time is taken. Upon termination of your employment with Memorial Sloan-Kettering, you will not be paid for accrued unused vacation days or holidays.
Sick Time
As a Research Associate, you accrue one sick day per month. You may accrue a maximum of 72 sick days. Sick time in your bank may be carried over from one appointment to another, up to the maximum 72 days. Upon termination of your employment with Memorial Sloan-Kettering you will not be paid for the unused sick time you have accrued.
As a Research Associate, you are eligible for salary continuance -- a maximum of six months sick leave, which includes the sick time you have accrued. You will be required to submit a disability form if your illness or injury is not related to work and you are out of work for more than a week. If your illness or injury is work related, you will be asked to complete forms for Workers' Compensation benefits. You may call the Benefits Department for assistance with forms.
Questions regarding interpretation of the vacation, holiday, and sick time policy should be addressed to Merrill Baron, Director, Employee Benefits, 212-639-3459.
