The Brain Tumor Center (BTC) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering held its first annual retreat on May 16, 2008, at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in downtown New York City. This was the first opportunity for all of the clinical and research groups with an interest in brain tumors to come together and look for areas of collaboration.
To kick off the event, the six recipients of the 2007 BTC Grants -- Andrew Lassman, Michelle Bradbury, Luca Cartegni, Daniel Ciznadija, AdÃlia Hormigo, and Michael McDevitt -- presented the progress of their work. Following these presentations, representatives from six clinical departments -- neurology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, radiology, and the Human Oncology & Pathogenesis Program -- gave updates about their departments' current scope of research in the field of brain tumors.
During the afternoon session, there was a poster session where senior faculty members were able to comment and make recommendations on postdoctoral trainees' research projects. In addition, Robert Lowman, Associate Chancellor for Research and Director of Research Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, gave a presentation on how to receive funding from foundations.
