Ambulatory Nurses

Ambulatory Care nurses are involved in the complex management of medical and surgical oncology patients at Memorial Sloan-Kettering's multiple outpatient sites.

Nursing care in these sites covers many clinical areas:

Roles of the Ambulatory Nurse

  • Office Practice Nurse (OPN)
    The Office Practice Nurse provides continuity of care to a specific patient population. This is done through the office visit, hospitalizations and the home environment.

  • Ambulatory Chemotherapy Nurse
    The Ambulatory Chemotherapy Nurse is responsible for the accurate and safe administration of chemotherapy, immuno- biologic agents and blood products to a disease specific caseload of patients.

  • Unit Practice Nurse (UPN)
    The Unit Practice Nurse is service-based, working with physicians and the OPNs, coordinating clinic activities to ensure a smooth and efficient flow during practice sessions.

  • Research Nurse
    The Research Nurse facilitates protocol study enrollment and coordination of patient care activities for those patients on clinical trials.
