Stephen B. Solomon, who joined the faculty in 2005, has been named Chief of the Interventional Radiology Service in the Department of Radiology.
As an interventional radiologist, Dr. Solomon specializes in minimally invasive treatments carried out using image guidance, including x-ray, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. He has a particular expertise in thermal ablation -- a technique that uses imaging to guide a needle to a target tumor and then destroy it through the application of heat (radiofrequency ablation) or extreme cold (cryoablation). He has invented a number of technologies that make surgery easier and has expertise in robotics and other image-guided therapies.
Dr. Solomon received his MD degree from the Yale School of Medicine, interned at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and was a radiology resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also serves as co-director of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's new Center for Image-Guided Intervention, which will incorporate a multi-modality and multidisciplinary approach to image-guided cancer therapy.
