The aim of this study was to determine if multivitamin use by postmenopausal women reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, and mortality. Over 160,000 women from the clinical trial and observational study cohorts of the Women's Health Initiative were followed up for 8.0 and 7.9 years. Researchers concluded that multivitamins did not lower the risk of CVD, common cancers (including breast (invasive), colon/rectum, endometrium, kidney, bladder, stomach, ovary, and lung), or mortality.
