Adjusting to life after cancer treatment can be a significant source of anxiety and stress. Feelings of abandonment, vulnerability, and fear of recurrence are common among cancer survivors, says cancer survivorship expert Penny Damaskos. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Post-Treatment Resource Program offers education, support groups, and individual counseling to help cancer survivors adjust to “the new normal.” Damaskos also discusses other resources available to cancer survivors such as nutritional and career counseling.
