A metallic taste in the mouth often occurs during treatment. Taste alterations include a decrease in taste sensitivity, making some foods taste bland and difficult to distinguish. Some foods may have a peculiar or unpleasant taste.
Self-Care Measures:
- Chew sugar-free gum.
- Suck hard candy to alleviate metallic taste. If it occurs while receiving chemotherapy, ask your nurse for a candy. Use good oral hygiene at home to help prevent mouth sores.
- Eliminate foods that stimulate an unpleasant taste sensation.
