Late Effect (1st of 2)
Cirrhosis (chronic liver disease)
Your risk is greater if:
- You had a high treatment dose, especially over 30-35 Gy to 1/3rd of the liver volume or 18 Gy to whole liver.
- You have chronic hepatitis.
- You drink alcohol.
Recommended Evaluation
- Physical exam yearly
- Special blood tests of liver function yearly
Management
- You may need to see a liver specialist (gastroenterologist or hepatologist) if your tests are abnormal.
Late Effect (2nd of 2)
Liver cancer
Your risk is greater if:
- You have chronic hepatitis.
- You have cirrhosis.
- You drink alcohol.
Recommended Evaluation
- Special blood studies yearly
- Liver ultrasound if you have a history of cirrhosis
Management
- You will need an oncology consultation for medical management.
