Late Effect (1st of 3)

Reduced vision
Small orbit or eye socket

Your risk is greater if:

  • You had a high radiation dose, especially 20 Gy or more.

Recommended Evaluations

  • Complete eye exam yearly

Management

  • You should have an ophthalmology (eye) consultation if you have symptoms.

Late Effect (2nd of 3)

Cataracts

Your risk is greater if:

  • You had a higher dose of radiation, especially over 10 Gy.
  • You also were treated with steroids.
  • You also were treated with busulfan.

Recommended Evaluation

  • Complete eye exam yearly

Management

  • You should have an ophthalmology (eye) consultation if you have symptoms.

Late Effect (3rd of 3)

Various eye problems (e.g., lacrimal (tear) duct atrophy, dry eyes, inflammation of the cornea, etc.)

Your risk is greater if:

  • You had a higher radiation dose, especially greater than 30-50 Gy.
  • You were also treated with doxorubicin or actinomycin.

Recommended Evaluation

  • Complete eye exam yearly

Management

  • You should have an ophthalmology (eye) consultation for any symptoms.
