Rachel Kobos, MD

I am a pediatric oncologist who treats children with many different cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, kidney tumors, and liver tumors. I am also involved in the care of patients who are receiving a stem cell transplant as part of their treatment. I am a member of the Children’s Oncology Group and participate in many of their clinical trials.

In my laboratory research, my colleagues and I are analyzing the molecular basis of sarcomas. We are using the latest technologies to see which genes or pathways in these tumors are turned on or off. We hope to identify new therapeutic targets and translate these findings into new treatments for children with sarcomas and, hopefully, other types of cancers.

I first came to Memorial Sloan Kettering as a medical student working with the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Team and found the patients and their families to be incredibly inspiring. Years later, I am proud to be a member of the attending staff and a part of the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We are a dedicated team of professionals that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, teachers, and child life specialists. We provide both medical and emotional services for children receiving treatment here to make this experience as comforting for them as possible.
