Retinoblastoma (RB) is a tumor that is found in the retina (the back layer) of the eye. It can occur either in one or both eyes. The purpose of this Children’s Oncology Group study is to determine how genes and certain factors of day-to-day life (exposures) affect a person’s chances of developing RB. Researchers will compare the exposures and genes of children with RB (who have no family history of RB) with those of children who do not have RB.
Children participating in this study will provide a blood, saliva, or tumor tissue sample that will be evaluated for genetic mutations. Participating parents will also undergo genetic testing and will be asked questions about their job history, exposures to medical radiation, diet, tobacco and alcohol use, use of pesticides, and any fertility treatments. The genetic testing offered in this study will be provided free of charge to participants.
