Vice Chair, Surgical Services, Department of Surgery; Chief, Hepatopancreatobiliary Service
I am a surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. Most of the patients I treat have primary or secondary liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, or cancer of the biliary tract.
Cancers of the biliary tract not only represent a large part of my clinical practice but are also a major focus of my research efforts.
My colleagues and I are actively investigating novel therapies for patients with primary liver cancer and cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) that cannot be treated surgically. We are also studying the molecular genetic changes that take place in bile duct cancers in order to understand how these tumors develop. In collaboration with colleagues from medical oncology and radiology, we are also investigating novel methods of assessing how tumors respond to treatment.
We are also very interested in and actively investigating the use of minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopy and robotics) and image guidance systems in liver and pancreatic surgery.
