I am a physician-scientist who works as part of a multidisciplinary group treating patients with breast cancer.

I also have broad interests in cancer biology. My research is focused on understanding how proteins called growth or inflammatory factors promote tumor growth and metastatic progression (when tumors spread to other sites in the body). Specifically, I study how these factors mediate the cross-talk between tumor cells and cells comprising the "tumor micro-environment." We hypothesize that it is the tumor’s "milieu" or setting that determines the aggressiveness of cancers.

We are developing therapies targeted to these inflammatory pathways, which we believe will alter the behavior of cancers, making them sensitive to chemotherapies and hormonal therapies, and incapable of metastasizing. Our preclinical research is demonstrating that these approaches are applicable not only to breast cancer but to a number of other cancers including prostate, lung, ovarian, liver, and colorectal cancers. For further information about my research activities please see the link below.
