Chief, Critical Care Medicine Service; Medical Director, Respiratory Therapy
As a board-certified critical care medicine physician, I oversee a team of highly experienced doctors, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and nurses who run Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s intensive care unit (ICU). Since joining the staff in 1999, I have served as Chief of Critical Care Medicine Service and Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy. In this capacity, I chaired the multidisciplinary ICU Design Committee that developed the plan and monitored the construction of Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s 20-bed medical/surgical adult ICU that opened in April 2007. The ICU was the winner of the 2009 ICU Design Citation.
I am also a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Medicine, and the American College of Physicians. I am a member of the editorial boards of Critical Care Medicine and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. I have written more than 70 journal articles and book chapters, and lecture around the country and internationally about innovations in ICU design, the cost and use of critical care in America, technology introduction in critical care, wireless connectivity in critical care, implementation of nurse practitioner programs in critical care, and point-of-care testing. I am actively involved nationally in the Society of Critical Care Medicine as a member of the Manpower Taskforce and the ICU Design Award Committee.
