Jennifer L. Hay, PhD
I am a clinical health psychologist with expertise in addressing psychological aspects of cancer risk, diagnosis, and treatment. I specialize in the treatment of patients with melanoma, individuals who are at risk for developing melanoma, as well as their families. Additionally, I provide care to patients through Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Smoking Cessation Program, where I help smokers to quit smoking and avoid relapse to smoking in the future. Additionally, I am the psychological liaison to the Melanoma and Thoracic Disease Management Teams.
I am also affiliated with the health behavior change and cancer risk reduction laboratory. The lab examines psychological and behavioral factors in cancer prevention and early detection. My research interests include evaluating the role of cancer risk perceptions in the adoption of cancer prevention strategies, assessing naturalistic communication about cancer in family settings, and developing and evaluating new ways of communicating cancer risk to average and higher risk individuals.
I am a member of various scientific and medical societies including the Society for Behavioral Medicine, the American Psychological Association and American Society of Preventive Oncology, which are organizations of specialists in my field. Additionally, I am a member of the prevention, control and population research committee at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.
