Mary L. Gemignani, FACS
I specialize in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer. I am trained both as a breast surgeon and as a gynecologic oncologist. My research interests involve clinical and laboratory studies of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer including breast cancers caused by mutations in the BRCA genes. I have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary breast cancer. I am a principal investigator for several research projects, including one to investigate the use of a special estrogen PET (positron emission tomography) imaging substance in patients with breast cancer. I have also been involved in MSKCC's Special Surveillance Breast Program, a comprehensive screening and prevention program for women who have an increased risk of developing breast cancer. Additionally, I help conduct clinical trials at MSKCC to evaluate new cancer therapies.
