Marcel R.M. van den Brink
Head, Division of Hematologic Oncology; Alan N. Houghton Chair
My expertise is in allogeneic (donor-provided) blood stem cell transplantation for adult cancer patients. In my laboratory, I investigate the immunological aspects of bone marrow transplantation. My major projects include strategies to enhance post-transplant immune reconstitution; the role of T cells in graft-versus-host-disease, a potentially fatal complication of bone marrow transplants in which immune cells from the donor attack the patient's tissues; and graft-versus-tumor activity, a beneficial side effect of bone marrow transplants in which donor immune cells attack the patient's tumor cells.

As a physician-scientist, it is my goal to translate the findings of my laboratory into new therapies that can be evaluated in clinical trials, which could improve the outcome for our transplant patients. Please see the link below for more information about my research activities at the Sloan-Kettering Institute.
