I am a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with over 30 years of experience in my specialty. The scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery includes the surgical management and treatment of the upper and lower jaws and the related structures of the face.

Oral surgery at MSKCC includes treatment of benign lesions of the jaws and dentally related oral infections; surgery to reconstruct the jaw or to treat traumatic injuries to the mouth or jaw; and dentoalveolar surgery. My primary area of interest and expertise is in osseointegrated implant reconstruction of defects of the face and jaws. Such defects may occur from ablative cancer surgery, traumatic injuries, or congenital growth deformities. I am part of the reconstructive team of head and neck surgeons, plastic surgeons, and maxillofacial prosthodontists in planning and placing osseointegrated implants to support protheses of the jaws, eyes, ears, and nose.

I have been at MSKCC for the past ten years, as both an operating surgeon and a teacher in the Maxillofacial Prosthodontic and Dental Oncology Fellowships. I am also a Senior Attending at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Weil Cornell Medical Center, in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery -- as both an attending and a teacher in the MD/DDS dual degree residency training program for future oral and maxillofacial surgeons. My current clinical research at MSKCC is in the area of osteonecrosis of the jaw bones related to bisphosphonate therapy for metastatic disease. A clinical abstract has been presented and a publication is in progress.

I have lectured nationally and internationally on implant reconstruction in head and neck cancer patients and have also produced an instructional video, "Intravenous Conscious Sedation in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Practice," which has been distributed nationally. I am also board certified in dental general anesthesia.

In addition to my clinical and academic activities, I am very involved with organized dentistry. On the state and national levels, I am on the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a delegate to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons House of Delegates. I am also on the Committee for Public and Professional Communications of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

On the local level, I am Chairman of the Professional Liability Claims Committee of the New York County Dental Society and its representative to the New York State Dental Association in Albany. I am past Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the New York County Dental Society.
