Melinda S. Merchant
I am a pediatric oncologist with a special interest in the treatment of sarcomas. My translational research is focused on the development of new targeted therapies against sarcomas such as Ewing's sarcoma, synovial sarcoma, and desmoplastic small round cell tumor. I am particularly interested in triggering apoptosis, or cell death, in cancer cells while minimizing damage caused to normal cells. As a member of the pediatric sarcoma team, I am involved in clinical care, clinical research, and laboratory research with the goal of improving the therapy for children and young adults diagnosed with these rare tumors.
