There are few breast cancer support groups that focus on the specific needs of Chinese women. The purpose of this study is to learn about different ways of providing support groups to help women of Chinese descent cope with the challenges of a diagnosis of breast cancer and its treatment. Investigators will assess two types of support groups: an in-person group and a virtual (online) group.
Women will be randomly assigned to one group or the other; those assigned to the virtual support group who do not have their own computers will be given a notebook computer and six months of Internet access so they can participate in the study. Women in each group will have the opportunity to attend 12 weekly support group sessions (in person or online), and will be surveyed to gather their feedback after each session and at the conclusion of all 12 sessions.
