Health Outcomes: Prostate Cancer Data Base Sweden: Linkages of Nation-wide, Population-based Registers as a Platform for Epidemiological Research

By use of the unique Swedish personal identity number, The National Prostate Cancer Register (NPCR) has captured 98 percent of all incident prostate cancer (Pca) cases in Sweden since 1998. It has been linked to a number of health care registers and demographic databases in PCBaSe (Prostate Cancer Data Base Sweden) and provides an excellent  platform for a wide variety of study designs. In this talk some examples of such studies will be presented including differences in Pca-mortality in counties with high and low Pca incidence, risk of high grade Pca in men on 5 alpha reductase inhibitors, and the rapid decline in use of inappropriate bone scans in Sweden.
