Research Interests

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most prevalent cause of male cancer-related death in the world and castration-resistant PCa is a major challenge to clinical treatment. Although extensive research has concentrated on the signaling pathways active in tumor cells, accumulating evidence showed that cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) derived from the stroma can have profound effects on tumor growth. In addition, abnormal activation of the hedgehog (HH) signaling pathway has been demonstrated in PCa.

I am interested in understanding the mechanism by which HH pathway contributes to the stromal-epithelial crosstalk during tumor progression and castration resistance, by utilizing transgenic mouse PCa models. Furthermore, identification of factors secreted by CAFs that can alter tumor growth will allow the characterization of similar pathways in human PCa samples. This project should provide a basis for developing novel biomarkers for PCa prognosis and tailoring treatments to target CAFs and tumor cells.
