David Spriggs: RNA Binding Proteins as Targets of Drug Therapy

In contrast, we have also looked at RNA binding proteins and their functions in controlling protein expression in drug resistant lines. We have isolated novel proteins in epithelial tumor cells which appear to mask mRNA from genes with basal transcription, preventing protein expression. We are currently utilizing pharmacophores that interfere with this process and release mRNA for protein expression. The regulation of this process is also under investigation.
