I am a board-certified internist and medical oncologist who specializes in caring for patients with leukemia, and I am a member of a team that provides compassionate, multidisciplinary care for leukemia patients.
My research is focused on finding more-effective treatments for lymphoid leukemias — particularly chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) — by evaluating new drugs under development. Through some of my research I have evaluated combination therapies that include chemoimmunotherapy, immunomodulatory drugs, and/or monoclonal antibodies. I am also working to find active, less-toxic treatments for older patients with this disease, who represent the majority of patients. I have partnered with a number of laboratory colleagues to evaluate and develop less-toxic therapies for patients.
Ultimately, the goal is to find a cure for this leukemia. But until a cure exists, we need to tailor therapies to each patient with their safety in mind, as patients with CLL often face multiple retreatments of their disease.
