About one in eight women over age 50 develop breast cancer, says Dr. David Kissane, a psychiatrist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer increases dramatically in women who have inherited mutations in the genes BRAC1 and BRAC2. Scientists have identified other inherited genetic mutations that may also increase the risk of breast cancer.
