Animal Serum Products Wait two weeks after last dose.
Anthrax Vaccine No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Attenuvax (also see measles) Wait two weeks after last dose.
Biavax (Rubella & Mumps) Wait four weeks after last dose.
Botulism Toxin Wait one month after last dose.
BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) Wait two weeks after last dose.
Chickenpox Vaccine (See Varicella-Zoster Vaccine) Wait four weeks after last dose.
Chickenpox Immune Globulin (Varicella-Zoster Immune Globulin) Wait two months after last dose.
Cholera No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Desensitization (Allergy) One day deferral.
Diphtheria, DT (Diphtheria, Tetanus), DPT or Tdap (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Experimental Vaccinations Wait 12 months after last dose.
Fluax No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Gamma Globulin Wait 120 days if given post exposure to hepatitis A. Wait 12 months if given after exposure to any other disease. You may donate immediately if given for prevention (e.g., for travel).
Gardasil (HPV) No waiting period.
Hepatitis A Vaccine Wait 12 months if given after exposure. You may donate immediately if given for prevention.
Hepatitis B Vaccine

Wait 12 months if given after exposure. Wait 14 days if given for prevention.

Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIG) Wait 12 months after last dose.
HPV (human papillomavirus) No waiting period.
Influenza (Flu) Virus Vaccine No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
IVIG Please contact our Blood Donor Room at 212-639-7643 to discuss your specific situation with our medical staff.
Japanese Encephalitis No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Lyme Vaccine No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Measles (Rubeola) Wait two weeks.
Meningococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Meningovax-AC No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Wait four weeks after last dose.
M-R-Vax (Measles, Rubella) Wait four weeks after last dose.
Mumps Wait 2 weeks after last dose.
OmniHIB No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Parathyroid No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Pertussis Vaccine No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Pertussis Immune Globulin Wait six months after last dose.
Plague No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Pneumonia (Pneumococcal) No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Pneumovax No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Polio (Oral, Sabin) Wait two weeks after last dose.
Polio (by injection, Salk) No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Rabies Immune Globulin Wait 12 months.
Rabies You may donate immediately if the injection was given for prevention due to occupation. If you were bitten, you may not donate for 12 months.
Rh Immune Globulin (RhoGAM) Wait 6 weeks after pregnancy, miscarriage or abortion. If the immunization was given in association with an Rh incompatible transfusion, wait 12 months.
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.
Rubella (German Measles) Wait four weeks after last dose.
Rubeola (Measles) Wait two weeks after last dose, unless part of MMR, then wait four weeks.
SHINGLES (Zostavax) Wait four weeks.
Smallpox Wait eight weeks after vaccination.
Tetanus Toxoid You may donate immediately if symptom free. If given for a human bite, wait 12 months. If given for a bite from a domestic pet, no waiting period if bite is healed.
Tetanus Antitoxin (Equine) Wait three months after last dose.
Tetanus Immune Globulin

Wait six months after last dose.

Typhoid

No waiting period if given by injection. Wait 2 weeks if taken by mouth.

Typhus, Paratyphoid

No waiting period. You may donate immediately if you’re feeling well.

Varicella-Zoster (Chicken Pox) Wait four weeks after last dose.
Varicella-Zoster Immune Globulin

Wait two months after last dose.

Yellow Fever Wait two weeks after last dose.
