What will I do as a patient or family advisor?

Our advisors share their voice and unique perspectives alongside MSK staff to shape decisions and ideas that ultimately impact the patient and family member experience.

You might be expected to:

  • Participate on committees
  • Promote awareness of opportunities that impact patients and family members
  • Collaborate with staff in the development of MSK clinical spaces or facilities
  • Generate ideas to enhance communication between clinical staff, hospital administration, patients, and family members

What kind of time commitment should I anticipate?

Advisors have the option to participate in long-term monthly committees or short-term projects. Each type will be discussed and you will have the option to select what works best for your schedule. Meetings usually last one to two hours.

I was treated outside of MSK. Am I eligible to apply?

No. It is our belief that an understanding of the experiences of MSK patients and family members is a key element to effective advisor input.

All assignments are unpaid volunteer positions.
