Memorial Sloan Kettering leadership announced in February that the Center has purchased the property formerly known as Cabrini Medical Center, located on East 19th Street in Manhattan. The 450,000-square-foot, five-building complex will be known as Memorial Sloan Kettering 19th Street. Pending regulatory approval, a major renovation will be undertaken to convert the property into an outpatient cancer center.
The property, approximately two and a half miles from Memorial Sloan Kettering’s main campus on York Avenue, will be used for ambulatory care, expansion of the bone marrow and stem cell transplantation program, and an increased ambulatory surgery program. It will also offer future opportunities to expand clinical and research programs.
“The acquisition of the Cabrini site reflects the Center’s need to expand its clinical operations in Manhattan and comes after an energetic and difficult strategic planning effort over the past several years,” said Memorial Sloan Kettering President Harold Varmus. “While the site is farther from our main campus than we would like, the Center’s future as a clinical leader demands the space for program development that this new site provides.”
