Full TitleIntegrating Tobacco Use Treatment Into Cancer Care
The purpose of this study is to compare two smoking cessation treatments in smokers who are receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. One treatment approach includes our current standard of smoking cessation counseling. The second approach involves intensive smoking cessation counseling and includes additional counseling sessions, such as those focusing on smoking relapse and support after cancer treatment.
Participants in both groups will be offered the opportunity to use smoking cessation medications, such as varenicline or nicotine replacement. Those who are in the standard care group will pay for these medications themselves, while those in the intensive treatment group who choose to take these medications will receive them free of charge. Participants should plan to be in the study for about six months.
This study includes patients (age 18 and older) receiving care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center who smoke and are interested in quitting.
