Full Title

Nocturia in Prostate Cancer Survivors - Acupuncture Pilot Study (NOCTURNAL)

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to assess the use of acupuncture to treat survivors of prostate cancer who are experiencing nocturia, a condition that causes someone to wake up throughout the night to urinate. Researchers will also assess the effects of acupuncture on sleep, mood, energy, thinking ability, and sexual function.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body to promote health. Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

  • Group 1 will receive acupuncture right away.
  • Group 2 will be put on a waiting list and have the option to receive the same acupuncture treatment as Group 1 after a 14-week waiting period.

Who Can Join

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several requirements, including:

  • Participants must have completed prostate cancer treatment at least one month before entering the study and be waking up to urinate two or more times per night over the last month.
  • This study is for people age 18 and older.
