Obstetrics and Gynecology

I am a gynecologic oncologist who specializes in performing surgery to treat gynecologic cancers. These include ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, and vulvar cancer.

I have a special focus on fertility sparing procedures that aim to help women with gynecologic cancers maintain their ability to start or grow their families. In addition to fertility preservation techniques, I have expertise in performing radical cytoreductive surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. With this approach, we aim to remove as much of the cancer as possible in order to improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy after surgery.

I also have a special interest in risk-reduction surgery for women who are at high risk for developing gynecologic cancers.

I have been interested in gynecologic oncology since my second year of medical school. After I observed a doctor calm the fear and pain of a woman with ovarian cancer simply by sitting at her bedside and holding her hand, I knew I wanted to be a part of the powerful doctor-patient relationship and compassionate care that defines the field.

Receiving a cancer diagnosis can bring a great deal of anxiety and fear to patients and their loved ones. In my practice, I believe that the best antidote for this is education, clear communication, and a comprehensive plan forward. That’s why, with every patient, I explain their diagnosis and treatment options in understandable terms, taking time to answer any questions. Together with their loved ones, we will discuss the pros and cons of each option. No matter what treatment plan we decide on, my goal is always to strike the important balance between achieving remission in the short-term and maintaining quality of life for my patients in the long-term. I am also committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for patients in the LGBT community, and all patients regardless of their backgrounds or identities.

My research efforts are focused on evaluating the cost of cancer care. By looking for ways to reimagine how cancer care is delivered, my goal is to make care more affordable for patients and improve their outcomes.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing guitar, and running and biking around Central Park.

No matter what treatment plan we decide on, my goal is always to strike the important balance between achieving remission in the short-term and maintaining quality of life for my patients in the long-term.
